Helping Students to Become Great 'Bluedevils'

So, this is my first blog ever and I really don't know what I am supposed to be writing but here it goes :)

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I remember back in preschool I was always the one that would stay behind and help my teachers out because I wanted to know what they were doing. I was fascinated by the way that they would help the students with whatever assignment they were working on and I knew that this was something that I wanted to do. Helping people. It's something that comes naturally to me. I've grown up with the instinct to help as many people as I can because I know that it is something that I enjoy. Teaching allows me to do that everyday. I get to come into the classroom and help the students learn; Learn to become better students, brothers/sisters, sons/daughters, human beings, etc. Being able to help a child learn at least one thing in his/her life is an accomplishment in and of itself.

If I can teach and help a child do one thing in life then my goal is completed. Seeing the 'lightbulb' go off when a student 'gets it' is an image that never leaves...It will stay with me forever.

-By the way, I hope everyone caught the Duke game last night (in reference to the title of my blog)---Duke 61 Butler 59----GREAT GAME! GO BLUEDEVILS! :)

  1. Hi, Mara --

I'm a Blue Devil, too. Just attended my 40th reunion this spring, so you can figure out how old I am. I taught in K-6 schools in NH and VT for 34 years and now I work for The Math Forum @ Drexel University in Phila. Still doing education, but in a different way.

Good luck with your chosen career. it's one of the most difficult and important and satisfying. And keep up your blog. I'll try to check back in a few days.

    Go Devils!
    Claire
